Draya

I woke up in the hospital after my accident with a fractured wrist. I had to thank God that it wasn’t more serious than that. My car was totaled, and I also got some more news in the hospital. I was ten weeks pregnant with twins. I couldn’t believe it. I didn’t really want to have another abortion, but I didn’t want anything else to do with Benny’s ass. I wasn’t trying to have to raise four kids alone, but I decided that I couldn’t kill two babies.

Once I was released from the hospital, I had to be out of work for almost a month. It’s hard to fix drinks with your hand in a cast. Once I was well, I went back to work and got the girls from my mother. I didn’t want to work in the club when I started showing, and being that I went back to work at four months, I didn’t have long to go. They liked for the bartenders to wear provocative stuff, so I had to wear short t-shirt like dresses that hid my belly somewhat. I was only to make it to five months in the club before I got too big to hide. All of my bills were caught up, but by the time I bought stuff for the baby, what was left of my taxes was gone. My rent was paid up for two months, but after that I would need some income.

I took a short CAN class, and at six months, I started working at a nursing home. I hadn’t contacted Benny, and he hadn’t contacted me, but one day to my surprise, I saw him as I was pumping gas. He looked shocked to see my huge belly.

“You pregnant?” He asked in awe.

“Nah, I just been eating good.” I said sarcastically.

When I went back to work at the club. Lexus had sworn me up and down that it wasn’t her in the house with Benny. She stated that one of the strippers Lana had asked to use her car that evening and she was at home. I told her it was all good and that I wasn’t mad at her. I had pretty much tripped for nothing anyway. Benny wasn’t my man.

“Draya come on, cus unless you were sexing someone else damn near every day you look to be far enough along for that to be my baby. Is it? I have a right to know.”

He did have a right to know. “Yes, these are your babies Benny.”

“Babies? Wow. Draya listen, the way shit ended was messed up. I do apologize for how I handled you that night, and I want to move past that. I have a job working construction, and I can give you money every week for the babies.”

I didn’t really believe him, but I played along so I was surprised as hell when he came by a week later and gave me $100. I worked all the way up until I was eight months and Benny came by every Friday, and gave me $100.
